TOMS RIVER – An on-duty officer was injured after he dropped his police motorcycle while negotiating a turn, officials said.
The officer, whose name was not released, was heading east on Route 70 at around 1:30 p.m. on June 30, according to a release from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s office. He went onto the on-ramp toward New Hampshire Avenue when the tires skidded out from under him and he dropped to the roadway, being ejected from the motorcycle.
He was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune but released after treatment.
“This appears to be an accident caused by a substance on the roadway that caused the Officer to lose traction and subsequently – control of the motorcycle. We are thankful that the Officer involved was treated and released and should make a full recovery,” Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Lakewood Township Police Department and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
