OCEAN COUNTY – Service dogs can help our nation’s veterans live independently and with dignity — but the costs to properly train a service dog can reach past $15,000.

The Central Ocean Rotary Club of Toms River is helping its Rotary District leaders in their project to raise much-needed funds to train service animals and pair them with local veterans.

The Rotary District 7500 Foundation Service Dog Project has set a goal to raise $45,000 for three service dogs to be donated to local veterans in need. The district is nearly halfway toward its goal.

The Central Ocean Rotary Club of Toms River is hosting a pancake breakfast to help raise funds additional. The event is this Saturday, June 2, from 8 to 10 a.m., at the Toms River Applebee’s at the Ocean County Mall, 1201 Hooper Ave.

The $15 ticket includes a breakfast feast of pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and a beverage (coffee, juice, soda or tea.) A limited number of tickets are available, so please order ahead at https://tinyurl.com/june2pancakes.

For those who cannot attend this event, the Rotary is collecting donations. Donate online at https://tinyurl.com/rotaryservicedog.
