
TOMS RIVER – A 25-year-old man has been arrested after striking two utility poles while driving under the influence, police said.
Hervin Moreno Lopez of Lakewood, told police that he was traveling south on Route 9 at around midnight on February 4 and was looking down to answer his cell phone when his car left the roadway.
Toms River Police Department Spokesperson Jillian Messina told Jersey Shore Online that Lopez was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He had refused medical attention at the scene and was placed under arrest.
Lopez was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, driving without license – never licensed, operating with drugs in vehicle, open alcohol container in a motor vehicle, failure to possess registration, failure to possess insurance card, and a cell phone violation. His car sustained serious damage and was towed from the scene.
