TOMS RIVER – A man was struck and killed by a car Tuesday night while crossing Route 37 in Toms River, police said.
Jason Matthews, 56, of Island Heights was crossing Route 37 in the area of River Drive around 9 p.m. when he was hit by a 2021 Honda Civic driven by a Barnegat man.
According to police, the Honda was traveling west on Route 37 when it struck Matthews who was in the right lane of the highway.
Matthews was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River where he died of his injuries, police said.
Multiple lanes on Route 37 were closed for several hours as police investigated. At this time, no charged have been filed.
