POINT PLEASANT BEACH – A local man was arrested and charged after carrying a weapon and impersonating a police officer, police said.
Around 10 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a local church regarding a man who had dropped a gun out of their pocket. Church security was able to escort the man outside the church.
The man, who was identified as Randolph Tashman of Toms River, was not the registered owner of the firearm and did not possess a Firearm’s Identification card, police said.
Additionally, Tashman had identified himself as a Law Enforcement officer to church security prior to officers arriving.
Tashman was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer. He was transported and is currently lodged at Ocean County Jail, pending a detention hearing.
It is presumed that any individual charged is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
