TOMS RIVER – A municipal prosecutor has been ordered not to handle cases after being charged with simple assault, police said.
Justin Lamb, Toms River, works as a sergeant in the police department in Lavallette and is a municipal prosecutor in Lakewood.
According to a Toms River police report, the simple assault charge stemmed from an incident of domestic violence at his Buermann Avenue residence. Following the charge, he had turned over his service revolver and two personal firearms.
According to Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Prosecutor Joseph Coronato has ordered Lamb not to handle any cases in Lakewood. He had been appointed that job in 2017.
Lamb is involved in local politics. He ran in the Toms River Republican primary in 2017 in Ward 1. He received 550 votes, and lost to incumbent Maria Maruca, who won 920 votes. Also in 2017, there was a referendum to build a new fire station downtown. At the time, he told reporters he made a lot of phone calls urging people to vote against a referendum, which eventually failed.
