NEW YORK – This Toms River son will stay in the Big Apple.

Free agent Todd Frazier, 31, signed a 2-year, $17 million contract with the New York Mets Monday night.

Sports Illustrated writer Dan Gartland wrote in a Feb. 5 article that this is a pay cut for Frazier, who had earned $20.25 million over the last two seasons.

The third-basemen played the end of last season with the New York Yankees, after being traded as part of a multi-player trade to them by the Chicago White Sox. It’s reported that both New York teams were eyeing Frazier this off season. However, SI reported that the Yankees two rookies as their third-base options.

The Rutgers University graduate has a career batting average of .245.

Frazier is a graduate of Toms River South.
