TOMS RIVER – Four students are looking to make their mark on Toms River with a redevelopment plan of their own.

A team of four Monmouth University students, winners of the second annual Intercollegiate Real Estate Academic Competition, will be presenting their winning redevelopment proposal to the public for a property in downtown Toms River’s Waterfront Redevelopment Area.

The proposal will take place on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at 7 p.m. in the Bishop Building, located at 101 Washington Street.

The Intercollegiate Real Estate Academic Competition, hosted by Kislak Real Estate Institute at Monmouth University in November, included teams of four students each from Baruch College, Lehigh University, Monmouth, Montclair State University, Rutgers University and Villanova University.

Each team had four weeks to prepare their analysis of the property at 320 West Water Street in Toms River and then present their proposed redevelopment project to two panels of judges.

Coming out on top against the other collegiate teams, the four Monmouth University students won for their waterfront redevelopment area of Allied Plumbing, due to its combination of ideas, feasibility analysis, methodology and presentation. The team was comprised of business students Brittany Leventoff of South Fallsburg, NY; James Azarian of Franklin Lakes; Isaac Beda of West Long Branch; and Michael Pavicic of Princeton.

“We are extremely proud of the hard work and creative ideas the team put together,” said Professor Irene McFarland, a professor at the Kislak Real Estate Institute and coach to the Monmouth team. “This was their first time competing in this type of competition and the students learned much about real estate along with teamwork.”
