Car Vs. House Crash In Toms River Leaves Driver Injured

TOMS RIVER – Township police are investigating how a car ended up crashing into a house, ultimately sending the unlicensed driver to a shore area trauma center in serious condition.

Toms River Police Department Spokesperson Jillian Messina confirmed that officers were sent to the area of Cox Cro Road on January 14 at around 11:25 p.m.

Messina said that 23-year-old Jose Lopez-Serrano of Jackson left the roadway, drove across several yards, crashed through several fences before slamming the vehicle into the house.

Lopez-Serrano had to be extricated from the vehicle by rescue crews from the Pleasant Plains Fire Company and was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center due to the seriousness of his injuries.

Lopez-Serrano was cited for Failure to Maintain Lane, Reckless Driving, Driving Without a License, Driving with a Suspended License and Failure to Exhibit an Insurance Card. Additional Charges are pending at this time, although police didn’t provide more details.

Police added the the home was deemed structurally unsafe by the Toms River Building Department.

The accident remains under investigation by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Terry Warren.
