TOMS RIVER – A woman who pleaded guilty to running a house of prostitution in Toms River received probation and a meager fine. Her co-defendant had his charges dismissed at the request of the prosecutor.
Nina X. Meng, 58, of Berkeley, will have to pay a $155 fine and probation fees, as well as serve one year of probation, after pleading guilty in October of running a brothel on Lakehurst Road in Toms River.
James M. O’Brien, 61, who lived with Meng, had his charges dismissed.
Meng ran the Redwoods Wellness Center at 515 Lakehurst Road. An investigation revealed the center was actually a brothel, and she was arrested by authorities in January 2017. O’Brien was arrested at a later date.
