TOMS RIVER – After a month-long investigation, Toms River police announced they made an arrest that yielded 1,350 doses of heroin, estimated at approximately $5,000.
The arrest was made by the Toms River Police Department Special Enforcement Team on Sept. 20 at an apartment in the Rest Inn Motel, 2015 Route 37 East, police reported. They executed a search warrant for that property and a vehicle.
Dowann J. Smith, 27, of Ocean Township was arrested. He was allegedly in possession of the heroin, a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a Taurus .380 handgun, and $715 in cash.
He was charged with possession of heroin, possession of over one half ounce of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of a handgun during a drug offense, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a handgun without a valid permit, possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.
