HOLGATE – A fire tore through a home in the Holgate section of Long Beach Township Thursday, displacing the female renter and her pets on the one of the coldest days of the winter.

The fire broke out at 5213 Bay Ave. The home and almost everything in it was destroyed.

A representative from the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s office was not available to speak with Jersey Shore Online at press time about what likely started the fire.

The owner of the neighboring home, Keith Kirsch, shared that his home was damaged, but mostly superficially.

“Thanks to all the first responders, fireman, policeman, local area contractors and others who helped get the fire under control And get the lady and her pets out of that house in the freezing temperatures. They definitely helped get the fire out ASAP and save my home in the process, which is damaged but mostly superficially,” Kirsch wrote.

The woman was identified through the GoFundMe page neighbors set up to assist her. According to that page, she and her dog are staying with a friend on Long Beach Island.

“At this point she is in need of everything. Clothing, money to help with medicine for her medical conditions, food for her and her dog and most importantly donations that would help put her up in a new rental,” the GoFundMe page, set up by Kirsch, said.
