LACEY – Police are investigating how a Lacey Township resident lost $34,500 in a fraudulent wire transfer incident.
On April 28, the resident reported to Lacey Police that she received an email in reference to her home closing. The email dictated that the resident had to wire transfer a deposit into an escrow account.
“The email outlined specific details to wire the deposit, $34,500, into a specific bank account. Several days later, she found out that the firm’s email account was hacked and the email was fraudulent,” stated police.
The $34,500 was wired into a different account, unrelated to the firm, police said.
The Lacey Township Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
