BARNEGAT – Several drivers and passengers were sent to local hospitals as a result of a multi-car crash Tuesday morning in Barnegat, police said.
The crash occurred around 7:11 a.m. on Barnegat Boulevard North between Melissa Drive and Rosehill Road.
According to police, a black 2011 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 40-year-old woman and also occupied by a 14-year-old boy was traveling north on Barnegat Boulevard when the car hit the rear end of a 2020 Acura MDX. The Acura was driven by a 45-year-old woman and also occupied by a 15-year-old boy.
Due to the force, the Acura then hit the rear of a 2010 Ford Taurus which then overturned onto its roof. The Ford Taurus was being driven by a 17-year-old man, police said.
The Ford Taurus then impacted the rear of a 2024 Chevrolet Trax which was being operated by an 18-year-old woman and occupied by 16- and 18-year-old passengers.
All vehicles were stopped in traffic in the left lane of travel waiting to turn left onto Bengal Boulevard, police said.
As a result of the crash, many involved were brought to Southern Ocean Medical Center for further medical treatment. One occupant was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment, police said.
