LITTLE EGG HARBOR – A Little Egg Harbor man was arrested and charged after attempting to break into a local residence in the early hours of October 1, according to police.
At around 6 a.m., police responded to a residence on Giffordtown Ln. for reports of a suspicious person trying to break into the rear of the home. The suspect fled on foot before the police arrived but was later tracked down by authorities.
Jason Smith, 34, was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespassing and Possession of CDS, namely heroin.
Further investigation discovered that Smith was also involved in numerous attempted burglaries to motor vehicles, in the West Tuckerton section of Little Egg Harbor, off of Wood St. in Tuckerton Borough, and the Ocean Acres section of Stafford Township, where he was caught on a Ring doorbell.
Smith was additionally charged with two counts of Criminal Attempt Burglary by Little Egg Harbor Police and two counts of Criminal Attempt Burglary by Tuckerton Borough Police. Smith was lodged in the Ocean County Jail.
Police added that Smith was seen committing burglaries in the area of Stagecoach Rd. off of Stage Rd. in the evening hours of Sept. 26 into Sept. 27.

Anyone with video footage, that has not yet been reported to police, showing a suspicious subject on their property, and/or attempting to gain entry into their vehicles are asked to call police. Anyone with video footage, in the area of Giffordtown Ln., showing a suspicious person on their property during the early morning hours of Oct. 1 are also asked to call police.
