STAFFORD – The Route 72 westbound jug-handle to Doc Cramer Boulevard and a section of the road will be closed as the town moves forward with its project plans and construction work continues.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced that starting February 18 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., through February 21, New Jersey Natural Gas will shut down and create a detour for both of the lanes for a gas installation. The right lane leading up to the jug-handle on Route 72 west will be closed during those hours and a detour will replace it for anyone wanting to go onto Doc Cramer Boulevard to enter Stafford shopping center.
This 11.6-million-dollar project will contribute improvements to the provide highway and signal intersection as it gets highly jammed and questions the safety of drivers. This project is said to add a 10-foot shoulder in each direction on Route 72 between the Garden State Parkway and the Stafford Square Shopping Center. It will also widen the median and create new barrier curbs. New traffic signals and roadway improvements should help with the consistent traffic that occurs in these areas.
The construction is said to be finish by late 2020, but is subject to change due to weather conditions or other causes.
