STAFFORD – Police are crediting a Ring doorbell surveillance camera and community tips for catching a burglar in the township.
Stafford Township Police said the received a report of a man attempting to enter a vehicle in the Ocean Acres section of town on Wednesday, September 18.
During the initial investigation, it was revealed that the owner of the car had a video of the subject on their camera. With the suspect’s description along with helpful tips from the community on the Ring Neighbors App, police were able to quickly locate and apprehend the subject at the Route 9 bus stop in Manahawkin.
34-year-old Jason Smith of Little Egg Harbor was arrested and charged with Theft, Burglary and Criminal Attempt.
Police remind everyone to lock their vehicles. The victim in this case had their door locked so no items were taken.
