BARNEGAT – Police have now identified the individuals involved in a fatal Parkway car crash.
The incident happened on September 25 around 2:26 p.m. on the Garden State Parkway, police said. The car was heading south when it left the roadway and overturned.
Sgt. Alejandro Goez from New Jersey State Police said Joseph Lyons Jr., 77, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when he veered off the road and hit a metal delineator post. As a result, the car overturned and struck several trees.
The passenger, Elaine Lyons, 79, of Little Egg Harbor, sustained fatal injuries and subsequently passed away.
Lyons Jr. was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City for serious injuries, Goez said.
At the time, state police are still investigating the incident.
