CAMDEN – A Manahawkin man was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder and sexual assault of a 23-month-old.
Michael Disporto, 30, will also serve a consecutive term of 40 years for Aggravated Sexual Assault.
Police in Gloucester City reported to a case of an unresponsive child on July 3, 2016. The child, referred to by the initials A. S., was taken to Cooper University Hospital where they were pronounced dead two days later. The victim suffered extensive injuries and showed signs of being sexually abused. Her death was ruled a homicide, and the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Gloucester City Police Chief Brian Morrell said Disporto was found guilty by a jury on October 13, 2023 and was sentenced on October 10, 2024.
Assistant Prosecutor/Homicide Unit Section Chief Peter Gallagher of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office represented the State during the trial. The case was investigated by Sgt. James Brining, along with Lt. William Rumell and Sgt. Victoria Patti of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Detective Joseph Hopkins of the Gloucester City Police and Detective Daniel Choe of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
