BARNEGAT – Barnegat Police arrested a Pennsylvania man in connection with the March 29 robbery of the M&T Bank in Barnegat Township.
Kim Quoc Nguyen, 39, of Newtown Square, PA was arrested on April 14 by the Barnegat Police Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) with help from members of the Nassau County Police Department Bureau of Special Operations and Nassau County Robbery Squad.
Nguyen was arrested for robbery, terroristic threats, and theft and was then taken into custody in New Hyde Park, Long Island, NY. This is not Nguyen’s first brush with the law; in 2012, he was arrested for a similar robbery of a TD Bank in Paoli, PA.
Barnegat Police Detectives and the CRU identified Nguyen as the robbery suspect on April 2. Once identified, an extradition warrant was issued but Nguyen’s location was not yet known.
A two-week search checked areas around south Jersey, Philadelphia, and New York City. Police eventually located Nguyen in Queens, NY after finding a vehicle connected to him there.
Nguyen is being held in the Nassau County Correctional Center.
“This is precisely the kind of collaboration and teamwork we strive for in law enforcement. Over a dozen federal, state, county, and local agencies from three states worked together and leveraged their individual knowledge and expertise to safely bring this subject into custody,” said Barnegat Police Chief Keith Germain.
Barnegat Police Department worked with the following agencies in the search for Nguyen: Federal Bureau of Investigation; New Jersey State Police; Ocean County Sheriff’s Department; Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office; Philadelphia Police Department; NYPD 108th Precinct; Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department; Nassau County Police Department; Stafford Township Police Department (NJ); Linwood Police Department (NJ); Ocean City Police Department (NJ); Willistown Township Police Department (PA); and Newtown Township Police Department (PA).
