FORKED RIVER – A woman who was interested in purchasing a motor home from Craigslist ended up at police headquarters to report a potential scam.
Lacey Police Officer Michael Hein took the report Wednesday morning. The woman had reported that the unidentified seller instructed her to buy $1,500 in eBay gift cards as a down payment. She was then told to scratch off the silver backing to reveal the redemption codes and provide them to the seller, whose address was in Fargo, North Dakota.
The woman called eBay directly, and was informed that she was the “victim of fraud,” according to Lacey Township Police.
Ebay’s law enforcement division is investigating.
