WOODLAND – A husband and father of three was killed in an early morning crash Saturday while he was on his way to work.
Sean Brown, of Barnegat, was a corrections officer at the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility in Crosswicks, and a union representative for Local 105 of the Policemen’s Benevolent Association. He worked as a corrections officer for 11 years.
He was 34.
He was driving westbound on Route 72 when at about 5:18 a.m. a Chevrolet Equinox crossed the center line and crashed into him, according to State Police Officials.
The driver of the Equinox, 71-year-old Priscilla Broadard, of Bear, Delaware, also died at the scene.
Officials are still investigating the cause of the crash.
“[Saturday morning] we lost a hero. OFC S. Brown was killed in a motor vehicle accident this morning on the way to work. He was a well-respected officer and union Representative. He truly helped many officers and will be missed by all,” a statement on the New Jersey PBA Local 105 Facebook page read. “Please keep his family in your prayers.”
Services for Brown are tentatively scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. July 25 at Thos. L Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Drive in Manahawkin. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by the union on behalf of Chandrani Brown. As of Monday morning, $16,204 of a requested $50,000 has been raised.
