Bicyclist Dies After Being Hit By Car

  STAFFORD – A 61-year-old bicyclist died after being hit by a car on Route 72 near the Garden State Parkway Monday evening, police said.

  Nelson Hoover, of Little Egg Harbor, was traveling westbound on his bike around 9:40 p.m. when he was struck by a car.

  The driver, Ronald Sheehy, 55, of Waretown, was transitioning into the far-right lane to access the Garden State Parkway north ramp when he made contact with Hoover.

  First responders performed life saving measures on Hoover and he was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries, police said.

  According to police, there’s no indication of any careless driving or speeding. Investigation revealed that Hoover was wearing dark clothing and the collision occurred in an area of Route 72 that was not well-lit.
