SEASIDE HEIGHTS – A woman impaled through her right ankle by an aluminum umbrella was taken to an area hospital, but not before a local official cut the umbrella to free the woman.
Officials said the force of wind drove the umbrella through 67-year-old Margaret Reynolds’ right ankle. She is on vacation from London, United Kingdom.
The injury occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, July 16 near Hiering Avenue.
Emergency crews responded to the scene. Seaside Heights Assistant Fire Chief William Rumbolo cut the stretcher—the part of the umbrella that connected to the frame—and freed Reynolds.
She was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for her injuries. Police did not have an update on her condition.
