OCEAN COUNTY – Jersey Central Power and Light crews are working to restore the juice to thousands who were plunged into darkness in the area Tuesday evening.
According to First Energy, more than 11,000 customers spread out between Lakewood, Jackson and Toms River were without power. The unknown cause affected homes, businesses and created havoc for traffic lights during the evening commute.
The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office and several local police departments are urging residents to not call 911 to report the outage as there’s nothing they can do to assist. They also advised residents to contact the power company, although they are well aware of the problem.
Restoration to some have already started at press time – others can expect the electric back on later this evening.
