One Dead In Ocean County Route 9 Car Crash

  LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood Police Department has confirmed that one person has died in a major accident that occurred on March 9 on Route 9.

  Around 8 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Madison Avenue and Courtney Road regarding a major collision.

  The investigation revealed that 23-year-old Alejandro Huerta Arias of Lakewood was traveling north on Route 9 when 32-year-old Mark Mandel of Lakewood attempted to make a left hand turn on to Courtney Road.

  Mandel turned in front of Hueta Arias and as a result, the cars collided which caused Huerta Arias’ car to hit and disable a nearby traffic signal, Captain Gregory Staffordsmith said.

  Heurta Arias was unable to exit his car due to extensive damage and had to be extricated by Lakewood Fire Department and EMS personnel. After he was removed, he was treated on scene for a leg fracture and later was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
