TOMS RIVER – The Ocean County Health Department will conduct comprehensive health services and screenings at its open house 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 19 at the WIC Office, 1771 Madison Ave. in Lakewood.
The free event is open to county residents.
“It’s a wonderful one-stop opportunity for residents to come out and take advantage of the wide variety of free services the health department is offering at this special one-day event,” Ocean County Freeholder Gerry P. Little, liaison to the Ocean County Health Department, said. “Bring the family or a friend and learn so much valuable information regarding smart nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle – or just take advantage of one of the free screenings.”
The open house is sponsored by the Women, Infants and Children program. Free classes and services include:
• Blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose screenings
• Pregnancy tests
• Prenatal nutrition
• Breastfeeding consults
• On-site recipe demonstrations
• Dental and oral health (exchange your bottle for a sippy cup)
• Diabetes education
• Iron education
• Healthy weight
• Asthma education and much more
“The Ocean County Health Department is working diligently to bridge the gaps in accessing health care in our communities while creating a really fun and interactive environment for kids and adults alike to support good nutrition,” Daniel E. Regenye, OCHD Public Health Coordinator, said. “A special highlight of the event is the delicious, but healthy, dishes we’ll show people how to prepare. There are so many great recipes that are extremely healthy and appetizing at the same time.”
