TOMS RIVER – A Seaside Heights man has been sentenced for beating a woman to death.
Matthew DeMartin, 38, was sentenced to 25 years in state prison on for the aggravated manslaughter of Sharon Falcetano, 58, who lived with him in the Glendale Motel, Seaside Heights.
DeMartin was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Wendel E. Daniels at the Ocean County Justice Complex, Toms River. He called a friend to ask how long it took “for a body to stink?” before he staged the victim’s corpse for his father to find the following day, Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor Michael Abatemarco told Daniels.
Noting the vicious beating Falcetano received in their motel room on Feb. 21, 2018, Abatemarco asked Daniels to impose the maximum 30 year prison sentence for his conviction of aggravated manslaughter.

Falcetano’s son, Jason Rivera was in the courtroom and also requested DeMartin receive the maximum sentence for his mother’s brutal murder.
Judge Daniels instead gave DeMartin, who was originally charged with murdering Falcetano and then pleaded guilty to the lesser charge in August, to 25 years in state prison. He could have faced a life sentence if convicted on the original charge.
