POINT PLEASANT BEACH – The former treasurer of Pleasant Beach Fire Company Number 2 was sentenced to five years in prison for stealing from them.
Salvatore Umek, 46, of Point Pleasant Beach, was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $107,517.
Police said that between February 2019 and November 2021, Umek transferred funds from the fire company’s bank account to pay off personal credit card debt in the amount of approximately $100,000. He also transferred money into his own personal bank account and used funds for his own benefit.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer acknowledged the efforts of Senior Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Heisler who handled the case on behalf of the State, and commended the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Economic Crime Squad and Point Pleasant Beach Police Department for their collaborative assistance in connection with this investigation, leading to Umek’s guilty plea, and now his state prison sentence.
