TOMS RIVER – The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of their K-9 officer Emmitt.
In 2013, Emmitt joined the K-9 Unit and was assigned to his handler Sheriff’s Officer James Kohout. Emmitt was certified by the National Police Bloodhound Association and maintained this certification throughout his career.
Emmitt retired in 2019 and lived the rest of his days with the Kohout family.
“Thank you for your service and may you rest in eternal peace,” the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
