TOMS RIVER – Ocean County Mall management announced a new café coming to the area in spring of 2020: Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea.
In addition to the coffee and tea in its name, Sweetwaters offers frozen drinks, desserts, and light fare.
The café will be part of the redevelopment of the mall property. The mall knocked down Sears and is replacing it with a “lifestyle center,” comprised of three buildings totaling 97,679 feet of retail space that would be built on the eastern side of the property fronting Oak Avenue. The idea is to make it a destination site – a retailing trend that combines a shopping center or mixed-use commercial development with leisure amenities – designed to entice shoppers from other communities.

The first Sweetwaters opened in 1993 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Franchise owner Wahgo Chang said, “I like the commitment of the brand to the community. I look forward to creating a community gathering place where our guests can come to relax, meet other people, or participate in our in-store events.”
“We are thrilled to have Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea, an inviting and relaxing coffeehouse with many terrific selections, as an addition to the retail and dining offerings at Ocean County Mall,” said Erin Barbato, Director of Marketing and Business Development.
