POINT PLEASANT – A man is charged with the theft and burglary of a local gas station.
After several months of investigation, the Point Pleasant Police Department has charged 39-year-old Steven Lawson with third-degree burglary, third-degree theft and third-degree criminal mischief for the robbery that took place at the Conoco Gas Station back in September of 2019. The robbery resulted in cash and store merchandise stolen.
In December of 2019, Lawson also was charged with four counts of burglary and theft for executing multiple vehicle burglaries of unlocked cars around the neighborhood of Bay Avenue. Further investigation showed that he was also attached to robberies in Bay Head during the same time frame, police said.
In related news, within just two months, there have been three burglaries around the area of Route 88 and Bay Avenue. The first of these robberies was the Conoco Gas Station. Following that was the burglary of the Chinese Gourmet, located at 632 Route 88, in September of 2019. Then, a week later, Joe’s Bagels, which is in the same complex of the Chinese Gourmet, was also burglarized.
It was found through numerous investigations by the Point Pleasant Police Department that all three of these crimes were not related to each other and three separate subjects committed each crime. The men who have robbed Joe’s Bagels and the Chinese Gourmet have been charged with burglary and theft, and are lodged at the Monmouth County Jail. Lawson was discharged on a complaint-summons and is waiting for his first appearance in Superior Court.
