LAKEWOOD – Police have arrested a 27-year old man for the stabbing of two individuals in a recent incident in downtown Lakewood.
On Oct. 6, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Lakewood Officer Kevin Seunath was traveling southbound on Clifton Avenue when he observed a 27-year old Melvin Torres holding a large knife with blood all over his hands. Officer Seunath got out of his patrol vehicle and ordered Torres to drop the knife and lay on the ground at gunpoint.
With the assistance of Officer Michael Grant, the officers arrested Torres and recovered the knife. Torres was charged with Aggravated Assault and several Weapons Offenses.
It was discovered that Torres had stabbed two people after engaging in a verbal altercation, according to Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith.
Police identified the stabbing victims as 49-year old Michael Lazzaro of Ocean Township and Jose Ruiz-Sabas. Both men were transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment, although police believe their wounds to be minor in nature.

Two other parties reportedly sustained minor burns after Torres threw hot water on them, Staffordsmith added.
