LONG BEACH ISLAND – Lighthouse International Film Festival’s 2017 Annual Kick Off Party will take place on May 6, 2017 at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Science starting at 7:00 p.m. The evening includes an exclusive screening and director discussion, the upcoming previews of the 2017 Lighthouse International Film Festival line-up, hors d’oeuvres from the best area restaurants, music by Michael Engesser of Solid Rock Productions, cash bar and a great silent auction. Admission $35 per person.
The Kick Off Party includes a screening and Q &A of Isaac Nabwana’s Ugandan action/comedy film Who Killed Captain Alex? Nabwana has been dubbed by the Wall Street Journal as “Africa’s Quentin Tarantino.” Nabwana brings Wakailwood productions to the world with his over 50 low budget feature films. Uganda’s “Quentin Tarantino” team-member producer, Alan Hofmanis will attend LIFF Kick Off Party this year! Issac Nabwana has taken the world by storm with his riotous, low-budget films. He has been featured on VICE, National Geographic Explorer, written up in BBC, IndieWire, Paris Match, Washington Post, Huffington Post, Montreal Gazette, Hindu Times, The Economist to name just a few. Nabwana wants to change the image of Uganda by exploiting the violence of his action films with outrageous comic relief. Who Killed Captain Alex? an ultra low-budget film shot in the slum of Kampala, Uganda. A trailer for the film was uploaded to YouTube in January 2010, and has been viewed over 2.7 million times as of February 2017 and Who Killed Captain Alex? is intended to have you “die laughing.” Issac Nabwana’s studio Wakailwood has brought hope and recognition to his community.
