POINT PLEASANT – Two local establishments were each charged with violating the Governor’s Executive Order closing non-essential businesses.
Janice Lauria, the owner of Anytime Fitness, was charged on May 5 with having her business still open. The police had received a complaint that the gym, located on Route 88, was still open. Officer Matthew Mergner witnessed a Brick resident working out while the owner was present. This was not the first time the owner of this establishment had been charged.
Also on May 5, Anthony Monte, owner of E. Cig Outpost on Bridge Avenue was charged. The company was allegedly offering curbside services, which are not allowed since they are not considered an essential business. They can, however, ship to consumers.
Violations of the Governors emergency executive orders is a disorderly persons offense carrying a sentence of up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. Charges are just accusations until proven in a court of law.
