OCEAN COUNTY – The commute home on Tuesday afternoon was a complete mess after a section of road on the Garden State Parkway buckled in the southbound lane near Exit 82.
According to the Ocean County authorities, traffic was backed up for over 15 miles between Monmouth and Ocean County as a result, stretching all the way back from Wall Township.
It was around 3:12 p.m. when the New Jersey State Police received a report of a crack in the asphalt and emergency crews moved in to make repairs. The lane was shutdown which caused traffic for several hours.
Authorities sent out alerts urging drivers to find an alternate route. This ultimately led to additional delays on Route 9 and 166.
With many starting their long holiday weekend early, crews were hoping to have everything repaired quickly.
As of press time, the lane has been fixed and traffic is moving again – although you may experience standard holiday weekend traffic.
