TRENTON – A former Jackson resident has pleaded guilty to receiving images of child sexual abuse. The announcement was made Tuesday by U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito.
Matthew Wolny, 40, who now lives in Egg Harbor Township, pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography before U.S. District Judge Brian R. Martinotti.
Wolny was an information technology worker in the Howell Township schools and a volunteer band leader at Brick Memorial High School.
He was living in Jackson in September 2013, and used peer-to-peer file sharing software on his computer to download video files showing images of child sexual abuse from the internet to his computer. He was arrested by local authorities then.
A federal complaint was filed, and he was arrested and charged on June 6, 2018.
This charge carried a mandatory sentence of five years in prison, with a maximum sentence of 20 years, and a $250,000 fine.
He’s scheduled for sentencing April 8, 2019.
Special agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), under the direction of Brian Michael, and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of former Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato, assisted.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Molly Lorber of the Criminal Division in Trenton.
Wolny is represented by Jack Wenik Esq. of Newark.
