POINT PLEASANT BEACH – Former American Idol contestant and Jersey Shore native Antonella Barba has been sentenced to 45 months in prison for possession of fentanyl with the intent to distribute, according to authorities.
Barba, 32, of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ pleaded guilty to charges of possession with intent to distribute back in July.
Barba was arrested in October 2018 in Norfolk, Virginia, for heroin possession. Although she initially denied knowing it was there, authorities discovered heroin in her rental car. In a closed shoebox on the floor of her vehicle was, what was later determined to be, 830.9 grams of fentanyl, authorities said.
Barba was charged with one count of possession of fentanyl with the intent to distribute 400 grams or more of the substance.
Barba was a contestant in the sixth season of American Idol which aired in 2007.
