TOMS RIVER – The Ocean County Board of Health will be voting on whether to take over the Toms River Animal Shelter building at its May 8 meeting.
On its agenda is a resolution to “enter into a lease agreement with the Township of Toms River to assume Animal Shelter operations.”
Meetings are held at 9:30 a.m. at the department located at 175 Sunset Avenue in Toms River.
This follows much arguing at Toms River Township Council meetings about whether the town should continue to operate the facility.
Meanwhile, a group of residents have been trying to recall the ordinance that allowed Toms River to enter into discussions with the county. A representative from that group said online that they are halfway to reaching the 3,079 signatures necessary to force the ordinance to go back to the Township Council. The council would then have to either rescind the ordinance or put it on the November ballot.
