LAKEWOOD – Authorities are currently investigating a hit-and-run involving a cyclist Tuesday evening.
Around 7:15 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Maplehurst Avenue and Cross Street after a report of a cyclist who was struck by a vehicle. A 35-year-old woman was found in the roadway with serious bodily injuries, officials said.
It was later determined that a vehicle was traveling northbound on Cross Street when it hit the cyclist, who was also traveling northbound on Cross Street. The vehicle then fled the area, officials said.
The victim was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where she is listed in critical condition.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle involved is believed to be a blue or silver Toyota or Lexus Sport Utility Vehicle. The vehicle will likely have front end and front bumper damage.
