Mike Sorrentino, more commonly known as ‘The Situation’ from MTV’s hit show Jersey Shore, begins his eight month prison sentence on Tuesday, Jan. 15 following charges for tax evasion dating back to 2014.
Back in October 2018, the judge allowed Sorrentino to push back the start of his sentence to Jan. 15 so he could spend the holidays with his family.
Sorrentino will be serving eight months with two years of supervised release at Otisville Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, New York, according to his Facebook page. His brother, Marc Sorrentino, was also sentenced to a two-year prison term with one year of supervised relief for tax offenses.
The brothers were arrested and charged in 2014. Mike Sorrentino pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion for approximately $123,000 in income for 2011. Marc Sorrentino pleaded guilty to preparing a fraudulent tax return.
On top of his sentencing, Sorrentino has spent recent years struggling with addiction. Sorrentino struggled with opioid abuse for many years after his time in college; however, he has been sober now for three years.
Following his Oct. 5 sentencing, Sorrentino noted that he was “happy to put this behind us.”
