ATLANTIC CITY – There were scary moments at Atlantic City International Airport Saturday evening as a plane attempting to take off burst into flames.
According to Ocean County News, a Spirit Airlines flight en route to Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport suffered a bird strike while attempting to leave the runway, causing the right engine of the aircraft to catch fire.
Passengers were evacuated from the plane and bussed back to the terminal.
Governor Phil Murphy posted on social media about the incident. He confirmed there were no serious injuries.
His post said “We’re closely monitoring an aircraft incident that happened tonight at Atlantic City International Airport. All passengers and crew were successfully evacuated off the plane, and no serious injuries reported. The airport has reopened.”
The Federal Aviation Authority is investigating the incident.
