The brush fire that broke out in Burlington County Sunday is 90 percent contained, officials said.

The Lake Oswego Recreation Area in Washington Township, Burlington County, is closed Monday due to a fire burning 843 acres of state and private lands nearby. Crews worked through the night to get the blaze under control.

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service will begin investigating its cause today, said Caryn Shinske, a press officer for the State Department of Environmental Protection. They will be helped by the State Park Police, New Jersey State Police and Burlington County Fire Marshall.

The state Forest Fire Service, along with volunteer firefighters from Chatsworth, New Gretna, Lower Bank and Green Bank, assisted at the scene. While no other departments responded to suppress the fire, Shinske said “Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst did provide a water tender last night to bring water in for firefighting efforts.”

There were no injuries or evacuations reported, nor anything threats to any structures.

The odor from the blaze permeated throughout Southern Ocean County.
