NEW JERSEY – Assistant Attorney General Louise T. Lester was named director the Victims of Crime Compensation Office recently, Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said.

That office, established in 1971 and part of the Department of Law & Public Safety since 2008, provides innocent victims of violent crimes compensation for expenses resulting from the crime. Lester served as deputy director of the VCCO and was recently promoted to director.

Elizabeth E. Ruebman, a victims advocate, will review the state’s victim programs and services to identify ways to strengthen those programs, Grewal said.

Ruebman will review claims compensation, support services, prosecution of criminals, bias investigations, victim witness services, policy developments and grant funding, and make recommendations to the Attorney General’s Office.
