FREEHOLD – Yet another local chain restaurant shuts down with the closure of the TGI Friday’s location on Route 9 in Freehold recently. In an unlikely twist, the popular chain restaurant will possibly be replaced with Tommy’s Tavern + Tap, an independently-owned business.
There is now a “closed” sign on the front door and all of the restaurant’s signage has been removed.
The potential incoming Tommy’s Tavern + Tap has yet to be approved by the township planning board, however the report stated that the business intends to renovate the location, building an outdoor dining area, a separate garden area and an outdoor dry bar.
TGI Friday’s closing comes on the heels of numerous other closures in neighboring townships, such as the surprise closure of the Ruby Tuesday in Howell, or the TGI Friday’s on Rt. 9 in Marlboro.
