FREEHOLD – A family suffered unspeakable loss in a crash that claimed the life of a mother and also hospitalized her three children.
The driver, a 42-year-old Waretown woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 3-year-old was airlifted to Jersey Shore Regional Medical Center and is in critical condition. Police said her other two children, ages 9 and 13, were also taken to the hospital but their injuries are not life-threatening.
The crash is still under investigation, but police believe at this time that a pick-up truck was heading south on Siloam Road at about 5 p.m. on July 14. It appeared to have left the lane, made a glancing blow at an SUV before colliding head-on with a minivan, killing the driver.
The driver of the truck, a 53-year-old man from Little Egg Harbor, and the driver of the SUV, a 34-year-old man from Jackson, remained at the scene when police arrived. The police did not note if they were injured.
Anyone with information about it is urged to call Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Nicolas Logothetis at 800-533-7443 or Freehold Township Police Department Detective Lt. Joseph Winowski at 732-294-5139.
No charges have been made at this time and the names of the family were not released by police.
