KEYPORT – A Whiting man has been identified as the boater who died after his vessel overturned into the Raritan Bay on Saturday.
The New Jersey State Police said 76-year-old Carl Bacic was pulled from the water after his fishing boat overturned.
The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed the 21-foot open cabin boat was spotted by another boater shortly before 10 a.m. The eyewitness called for help and a rescue team pulled the unidentified man from the water and began performing CPR with no success.
Sgt. Lawrence Peele of the State Police said it appears Bacic was alone when his boat capsized Saturday morning near Keansburg.
He was pronounced dead by Monmouth County EMS.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
