MONMOUTH COUNTY – Volunteers and county staff will be conducting the annual count of homeless people in the area on Jan. 23.
They will be at the following locations:
- Asbury Park – Jersey Shore Rescue Mission, 701 Memorial Dr., 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Freehold – New Beginnings Agape Christian Center, 133 Throckmorton St., 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Keansburg – St. Mark’s Soup Kitchen, 247 Carr Ave., 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Red Bank – Pilgrim Baptist Church, 172 Shrewsbury Ave., 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Unfortunately, there will be no mobile outreach to visit those who cannot travel to these locations.
Food, clothing, health screenings and employment services will be available at these sites, according to a press release from Monarch Housing Associates, the nonprofit organization overseeing this. They would also be referred to government programs and nonprofits who can answer their needs.
Those who are homeless or in danger of being homeless will be counted as part of the annual Point in Time Survey. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development uses these figures to determine how much funding and what kind of programs are needed in a given area.
