MARLBORO – A 38-year-old man was charged in connection with a homicide that took place on New Year’s Day, officials said.
Carl A. Richards of Marlboro was charged with one count of first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter.
Around 12:49 a.m. on January 1, law enforcement responded to a home on Texas Road in the Morganville section of Marlboro Township for urgent medical attention for a man who had been assaulted.
The victim, 64-year-old George L. Mott III, was found unresponsive with severe trauma to his head, face, and neck. Mott was rushed to Old Bridge Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased at 1:49 a.m., officials said.
Authorities later discovered that a verbal dispute occurred between the two, and Richards physically assaulted the victim which led to his death. It was determined that both Mott and Richards reside at the home.
Richards is being lodged in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI) pending a first appearance in Monmouth County Superior Court on January 5.
Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
