NEW JERSEY – They are a rare sight off the New Jersey coast, but great white sharks have been known to navigate these waters.
Some fishermen had their own encounter Monday while out on the sports boat Big Nutz Required 2, about 30 miles off the coast from the Manasquan Inlet.
Boat owner Capt. Jeff Crilly told local news outlets that a 16-18 foot great white shark munched on a chum bag before swimming away. He and his five-member crew were participating in a mako shark tournament when the great white approached.
A fisherman 40 miles off the coast of Atlantic City last July also encountered a great white while first fishing for tuna, and then mako.
